Spring Break in Southern Utah: Why We All Love This Time of Year

When March rolls around, southern Utah comes alive. Families and adventure seekers from Idaho, California, northern Utah, and beyond flood into St. George for warmer weather, endless sunshine, and world-class outdoor fun. After a long winter cooped up, spring break here feels like a breath of fresh air, quite literally! With temperatures in the 60s–70s and mild desert days perfect for hiking, biking, swimming, and sightseeing, it’s no wonder spring break in Southern Utah has become one of the busiest times of year.

Epic Outdoor Recreation: Parks, Canyons & Natural Wonders

Snow Canyon State Park

Snow Canyon State Park offers an incredible blend of red rock, lava flows, sand dunes, and scenic vistas just outside St. George. It’s ideal for hiking, picnicking, photography, and exploration and with multiple trails of varying difficulty, there’s something for everyone.

Zion National Park

About an hour northeast, Zion National Park stands as a crown jewel of American landscapes. Hiking iconic trails like Angel’s Landing or the Narrows, scenic drives, and breathtaking overlooks make Zion a must-visit destination during spring break.

Sand Hollow State Park

Sand Hollow State Park blends water and desert in a uniquely Utah way. With a 1,322-acre reservoir, this spot is perfect for boating, swimming, fishing, and even ATV riding on nearby sand dunes.

Gunlock State Park & Falls

Just northwest of St. George, Gunlock State Park offers a quieter, more rustic waterside experience. The reservoir provides boating, fishing, swimming, and, if conditions are right, the nearby Gunlock Falls are a delightful natural spectacle.

Where to Stay: Family-Friendly & Memorable Spots

Desert Color

Desert Color is quickly becoming a spring break favorite thanks to its large 2.5-acre lagoon with white sand beaches, paddle-boarding, swimming, resort-style pools, hot tubs, and pickleball courts, all within a walkable village feel. Whether you’re grabbing a beachfront sunset or gathering the whole crew for games and splash time, it’s an ideal home base for families.

Santa Clara Vacation Rentals

Just minutes from St. George, Santa Clara offers vacation home rentals with fun amenities like family pools, pickleball courts, and outdoor spaces designed for active getaways with kids and friends alike, perfect for group stays during spring break. (Local rental communities like Arcadia and Ocotillo Springs are known for fun water features and shared courtyards.)

Washington & Sand Hollow Resorts

On the east side of the valley toward Washington and Sand Hollow, you’ll find condo and resort communities overlooking golf courses and scenic desert,  including places adjacent to Sand Hollow offerings. These are great options for travelers who want golf, views, and quick access to off-road and lake fun.
