St. George, Utah: A City Built on Grit and Still Growing Strong

History

St. George, Utah was founded in 1861 as part of the LDS “Cotton Mission,” when early settlers were called to grow cotton in Utah’s warm southern desert. It wasn’t easy. The heat was intense, the land was rugged, and water was scarce. But those pioneers were resilient, and their determination laid the foundation for what we know today as St. George.

One of the most recognizable symbols of that perseverance is the beautiful St. George Utah
Temple, dedicated in 1877 and still standing strong. That pioneer grit still defines this
community, only now it’s paired with opportunity, recreation, and a quality of life that draws people from all over the country.

St. George Isn’t Just a Market; for Me It’s Home

St. George isn’t just a place I sell real estate. It’s where I grew up. I went to West Elementary (which isn’t standing anymore), then Woodward Intermediate, and like a lot of local kids, I remember when this town felt a whole lot smaller. I remember driving “the Boulevard” as a teenager on Friday nights.

I remember visiting Judd’s Candy Store at lunch while attending Woodward. Judd’s still stands today, and every time I walk in, it feels like stepping back in time. It’s one of those places that connects St. George’s past with its present. You’ll see grandparents bringing their grandkids in for the same treats they had decades ago. That continuity, that connection, is something special about this town.

I’ve watched St. George grow from a smaller desert community into a thriving city. I’ve seen
neighborhoods develop, schools expand, parks multiply, and new businesses open their doors. But even with all that growth, the heart of St. George hasn’t changed. People still care. They take pride in their homes, their streets, and their community.

Why So Many People Are Choosing St. George

St. George consistently ranks among the fastest-growing metro areas in the country and I understand why. Families, retirees, and remote professionals continue to move here because the quality of life is hard to beat.

Sunshine & Year-Round Living

We enjoy over 300 days of sunshine each year. Winters are mild and rarely bring snow. Summers are warm, that’s part of desert life, but with air conditioning, community pools, splash pads, and quick drives up to Pine Valley Mountain to cool off, it’s a very livable climate. If you love being outside, this is the place.

Outdoor Recreation Is Part of Who We Are

One of the best parts about living here is the access to world-class recreation and the events that bring people together around it.

You’re minutes from the red cliffs of Snow Canyon State Park and less than an hour from Zion National Park. Reservoirs like Sand Hollow and Quail Creek offer boating, fishing, and paddle-boarding. Mountain biking, road cycling, hiking, golf, it’s all right here.

St. George also hosts some major international sporting events that bring visitors and athletes from around the world. Every October, the city welcomes the Huntsman World Senior Games, the largest multi-sport competition for athletes ages 50 and over. We’ve also been proud to host IRONMAN 70.3 events, including a IRONMAN World Championship, right here against our red-rock backdrop, a testament to both the challenging terrain and supportive local community. And of course, the St. George Marathon continues to draw runners nationwide to our scenic course each fall.

Whether it’s youth sports, regional tournaments, or top-tier competitions, there’s always something happening and the community turns out to support it. Here, recreation isn’t just something we do, it’s part of who we are.

Thoughtful Growth & Community Pride

One thing I really appreciate about St. George is how intentional the growth has been. Development here is well thought out. The city is clean. Landscaping is maintained. Public spaces are cared for. The people who live here genuinely take pride in this place.

Even as we’ve grown, it still feels manageable. Commutes are short. Traffic isn’t overwhelming. You can get across town without planning your whole day around it.

While we maintain that small-town feel, we’re still within driving distance of Las Vegas and Salt Lake City, and the regional airport makes travel convenient without living in a major metro area.

A Community I’m Proud to Call Home

I’ve had the privilege of growing up here and watching St. George evolve. From elementary school memories to Friday nights on the Boulevard to building my business here,  this community has shaped who I am.

St. George honors its past while continuing to grow in smart, meaningful ways. It offers sunshine, opportunity, recreation, and a strong sense of community, and that combination is rare.

If you’re considering making a move here, I’d love to help. I don’t just know the market –  I know the neighborhoods, the schools, the hidden gems, and the lifestyle because I’ve lived it.

Let’s find the right place for you to call home in St. George, Utah.
